As as side note: For MacBook users wishing to use this to connect up an external monitor, and use that monitor in its native resolution as their sole viewing device, you will need to set the MacBook to mirror the screen in the display settings. Then close the laptop lid to put the machine to sleep, then remove and replace a USB device (keyboard/mouse) that is connected to it to wake the machine back up. Because the MacBook lid is still closed, the sole screen to come to life will be the external one and it will run in its native resolution, rather than mirroring whatever resolution the MacBook is capable of. Crazy solution to what should be a standard action, but that's Apple for you!
UPDATE: 12/10
After just 7 months this device failed. The plastic surrounding the displayport connector broke in two down the joint even though it was rarely unplugged or stressed. Subsequently the thin wiring inside broke down and failed. Maybe a sign of the quality or maybe a fluke. I have since replaced it with an all-in-1 adapter and cable to get rid of the bulky DVI connector from right next to the machine.
02/11 Star rating ammended from 5 to 3 as a result of the above information.
