Neoprene Sleeve for MacBook 13" Review

Neoprene Sleeve for MacBook 13

I love this case. The neoprene protects the macbook great, but there is one problem. Before I bought this case, I read some reviews on the Apple site about this case leaving "stains" on the white Macbooks. As soon as mine arrived, I turned it inside out, and put it through the washer and dryer. This worked great, and now I use this case all the time. Great case!

I recently bought a 27" imac quadcore and am simply blown away by how well macs work. My wife has been a mac lover for years and i have been an HP supporter since my first computer in 1996. Since windows 3.1 and MSDOS I have been doing all the little frustrating things which PC users do every day and deal with not realizing there is a better way. No more popup boxes, no more crashes, no more asking to do this and that, no more tedious installs and updates no more slowing down and running defrag and adaware and norton and everything else to try to determine why my 9 month old PC is running like a 9 year old PC. Everyone says it but its true. MACS JUST WORK. Its that simple. Take it out of the box, plug it in and your done. Everything is automatic, beautiful, sleek and most importantly made to last. My wife has had a macbook for nearly four years and the only thing that finally took it down was the battery charging feature. Basically a 200$ fix for a 999$ laptop. Not worth it and we got a new one. But the longevity is amazing. Had we changed the battery it would have lasted god knows how long. I't never had a virus and to the end worked just as fast as it had the day she turned it on for the first time.
I never imagined I would ever switch..and am so happy I finally did. The 27" is a flagship and is simply impressive to look at. I am a videophile and audiophile and this screen is simply a JOY to work with. You can put ultra high resolution photos on it and WOW. I elected to purchase the i7 because it is simply an amazing processor and the upgrade is only 180 for an educational user and perhaps 200? for a regular non affiliated user. The tiny upgrade is worth it as this MAC i can already tell will last forever and the longer you keep it the better it is to have a better processor. I purchased the smallest hard drive as there is really no point in a large internal drive. Even the largest drive apple offers will seem insignificant in two years as internet media advances and the price apple asks is ABSURD but heck if you have the cash go for it. I plan to expand with an external drive as needed. I also purchased the LEAST amount of RAM available 4GB 2X2GB at the time. There are four RAM slots available and I would truly recommend the max just to make sure this supercomputer is able to maximize it's potential for many years to come as the i7 processor can handle just about anything the avg user will throw at it for years to come. Apple wants 1600$ for the max ram upgrade, you can get it from reliable internet sources for around 300 dollars and even at 12 gb ram you are far beyond anything you will probably ever use.
I am a sucker and purchased the applecare plan but as an ed user its basically free with the discounts and I am covered for three years unconditionally. Even though I'm fairly certain I will not need it. I was just so used to having a computer which I did not have faith in it seemed right at the time.
SO PROS:
For a relatively low price I was able to get a very thin, extremely powerful desktop computer. I am in grad school and while the cost was substantial it was well worth it. The screen is of extraordinary size. It is really almost a flat panel TV with an EXTREMELY high viewing angle. It can be wall mounted. The standard keyboard and mouse are wireless, gorgeous, sturdy and work right out of the box like a dream. It takes up very little space on the desk and simply put it works. It's impossible to explain to someone who has not switched. everything is inside the monitor. It's the same thickness as the standard LCD tv of a year or two ago. The 802.11 goes up to N which is a huge plus and works flawlessly. No fluctuating signal, nothing. My download speeds are INCREDIBLE compared to anything else hooked up to this router. THe screen size is not only simply impressive, but also very functional. I am a molecular biologist and have to type countless scientific manuscripts back to back for two years now. I can have side by side word processing and data access as in a PDF or internet file right next to it no switching back and forth. That alone makes this computer a worthwhile investment for me. It can also handle rather intense mapping/sequencing software although i have only used it on similar macs in the lab and have yet to figure out how to do it at home. BUT I CAN! Oh and did i mention that a) practically every USB and bluetooth and wifi device works flawlessly with both mac and pc, you can VERY easily install windows on this computer and even run it in parallel with mac osx.. you have plenty of processing power to do it so compatibility is simply a NON-ISSUE.
CONS:
There are always a few. The keyboard is fantastic, light, wireless and heck a sturdy..solid stamped aluminum but feels rather flimsy..though on the other hand its extremely light and VEY thin. Think three credit cards stacked together. It lacks a NUMpad which for me is not a necessity but is extremely useful. Its small and feels cramped due to the fact that I type constantly and am a 5"10 college athlete. But it does very comfortably fit on my lap and i can surf the web from my couch with ease from across the room. The mouse really is magic. You can scroll, click with a tap etc and set these preferences as you wish. On top of that the new mouse has eliminated the red track light of old and replaced it with im guessing is guessing IR. Either way it works on ANY surface, dark, light reflective, carpet etc. Just not on glass. The MAC is very dedicated to ensuring it work perfectly. Sometimes to the point where as an ex PC user i am frightened by the lack of in depth menus, lack of accessing multiple drivers and in depth system knowledge etc. until i realize thats what had been eating literally days of my life up till this point. I'm still getting to know all the nifty (awesome but unnecessary) little shortcuts and tricks that the mac has but a PC user can use this computer out of the box with no problem. And really it is ready to go out of the box. Just plug it in BOOM its like its been there all along. (Welcome Change). Oh and its quiet... and doesnt get hot unless your rendering or something VERY intense so energy efficient.
One of my biggest letdowns was lack of a BLU RAY CAPABILITY. While the display is stunning using it to its true potential is fairly difficult but im sure not impossible via external mumbo jumbo. I use netflix on both this and my LED tv and while their and other online HD content is pretty it is nowhere near as brilliant as the blu-ray signal. DOWNER. The power cord is a tab bit on the short side but not enough to really be a problem and probably comparable to all desktop PC's, ive just been using laptops so frequently that ive been very appreciative of the extra long power cords versatility. Wow scary that thats all i have to complain about huh?
Bottomline- you wil not regret this purchase. It has really changed my life. I'm no longer frustrated nearly to tears when my computer is so SLOW and im on a tight schedule. It boots up SO FAST and takes care of everything SO FAST. It's eye catching and everyone is instantly jealous. Its cheap if you do not go crazy with apples customization options although the 21 inch model baseline for a child or someone not using their computer for intense work would still be far better than sufficient. Everyone is saying it and im happy to chime in saying "get it!!"

Macally BOOKSHELLPRO2 Leather Protective Cover for 15 Inch Glass Display MacBook Pro Review

Macally BOOKSHELLPRO2 Leather Protective Cover for 15 Inch Glass Display MacBook Pro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased one of these on a whim from a local brick & mortar store (Microcenter). Their price was worse than Amazon's, but it was an impulse purchase because the product looked nice.
I just put it on my 15" MBP (mid-2009 version).
The fit is amazing. I am surprised at how the minuscule little clasps hold on the edges of the unibody machine. Two attach on the back edge of the vent area, just below the display hinge. The other two are on the left and right sides, just past the corners. This alone does hold the bottom on, it is pretty sturdy. The top holds on by four clasps, two on the left and two on the right.
I use an eBags "Firewall" notebook bag; the 15" MBP flops around a lot in the dedicated notebook section. The Macally hard case helps with this a LOT due to the (faux?) leather and slight girth that it adds. The bottom does have a little bit of padding in it and helps insulate the notebook when using it on a lap as well.
Both the top and bottom have a little bit of weight to them and you can feel a slight difference when installed on the machine. The worst part of this weight is that it makes the screen heavier. Combined with the slightly larger gap when closed (due to the small clasps on the bottom), and you have a recipe for the notebook self-opening. The magnets that hold it closed aren't as strong because of the distance. If you have it flat, the screen stays closed, but if you stand it up on the hinge edge, the screen will pop open slightly. It does NOT open far enough to cause the Mac to wake from sleep, but if there is nothing nearby to support the bottom, it will fall due to its weight and you will come out of sleep. So, if you're putting it in a slightly loose fitting bag it should be ok. If it is going into an otherwise EMPTY messenger bag, you may have to be concerned about it popping open and self-waking "in transit."
The other concern with this product is that the top cover and base cover actually contact each other before the hinge of the Mac is fully open. The case limits the "opening range" of the lid, which is already pretty bad compared to many PC notebooks that will open to 180 degrees. Also, since the vent system is under the hinge, the more you open the lid, the more the vent is obstructed. I haven't used the product long enough to know if this will adversely affect the cooling system, but it's a definite possibility. I'm using the 9400GT integrated graphics right now, and writing this review in a room that's about 75F, and the CPU temp is hovering around 110F with gradual change up to 119F or so. I was not monitoring my temps before adding the case so I'm not sure if this is higher than normal for the newest MBPs, however the brief research I have done on Apple's own forums states that 100-150F is completely standard for light usage and nothing to worry about. So, it seems like temperature isn't an issue at the moment.
One unintended positive -- the edge of the bottom piece helps to shield the corner of the base. Anyone who has used a newer unibody mac on their lap for any portion of time knows that the front edges can and do "cut" (more like "put sharp pressure on one area for a long time") into your arms/wrists after a while. The edge of the case sticks up just slightly beyond the edge of the notebook, so my arms are hitting the leather/vinyl-wrapped case instead of the MBP. No more arm imprints from the aluminum!
Oh yeah. It covers the apple logo on the back. If you care about this kind of aesthetic bull, you don't want this case.

IVEA AQUA BLUE Crystal Clip on See Thru Hard Case Cover for New Macbook Pro 13" 13.3" Inch Aluminum Unibody Review

I was expecting the aqua blue case to be as bright and vibrant as it was shown, but when I finally got it I was extremely disappointment. The actual color was a very light blue, almost no color at all. It was also advertised that it was brand new, and the case had scratches all over the top and bottom. I have never had a problem with anything I've bought through Amazon, but who ever is selling this is doing some serious false advertising.

Belkin F5D5055 Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter Review

Belkin F5D5055 Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This adapter does not work out of the box with Mac OS X 10.6. Some people claim it works out of the box, some claim that it does not work at all. The truth is that this USB adapter used to work at some point, but subsequently stopped doing so due to incompatible OS upgrade. So, you'll NEED some drivers, after all.
So, I risked my dollars and decided to figure out for myself instead of reading reviews. After trying some Sustainable Networks drivers (USBAx8817x_103b13 worked, but the transfer speed was unacceptable), I installed Belkin's own "BETA" drivers available on their official support site.
With Belkin "BETA" drivers from 2008 it worked. That is, despite their note that the drivers are for 10.5 (Leopard), not for 10.6 (Snow Leopard). So, my advise for Mac OS X owners would be to go to Belkin's site, download the drivers and be done with it.
(UPDATE Jan 30 2011: Instead of Belkin drivers, download the AX88178 drivers from Asix Electronics web site. These are more recent ones and are much more stable!)
Notes:
1. The Ethernet part of this adapter seemed a bit flaky at first. I had to plug it in and out a couple of times until it synced at 1000baseT speed. Once it synced at 100baseT and another at measly 10 mbits/s. Manually selecting 1000baseT worked, but the speed was unacceptable. After the third plug-unplug it synced properly and was doing so ever since. So it might have been a local glitch of my network. Just be sure to try plugging/unplugging a couple of times to make sure it is up to full gigabit physical speed.
(Also, this flakiness might explain why I wasn't successful running with Sustainable Networks' drivers, but who really cares.) (UPD: The Asix drivers fixed the instability problem, see the above UPDATE and the comments).
1. The sustained transfer speeds were 20-30+ megabytes per second, depending on the server I used. I didn't try to push farther (up to theoretically possible ~50 megabytes per second, due to USB limitations), but the bottleneck was probably the remote disk drive speed, not the Ethernet. For example, I did not try to enable jumbo frames.
3. The adapter itself is unexpectedly small, that was a pleasure to see. The picture doesn't do justice to the donglet. The adapter can be plugged directly into the USB port or through a small USB extension cable, included.
4. I ended up plugging the adapter into a USB 2.0 hub which also connects a keyboard, touchpad and webcam. The hub itself then connects to my MacBook Air. Works like a charm, with almost no loss of speed (

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Wireless Computer Speakers Review

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Wireless Computer Speakers
Average Reviews:

I had ordered a set of Logitech speakers initially which cost about 150 bucks. I received them from amazon but had to return them because they didn't work...not a surprise as i have had issues with Logitech in the past. It was reasonably priced so i thought i would try it. I'm glad they were faulty, because i found this set which is wireless. love that aspect of it. Not totally wireless as the speakers connect to the subwoofer and then that plugs into the outlet. But at least i can play stuff on my laptop and move it around freely w/o wires attached.
The sound quality is also excellent, and i can play these LOUD. I don't even have the volume or base halfway and its loud.
I'm very happy with my purchase and I would recommend.

Creative Labs HS-1000 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology (Black) Review

Creative Labs HS-1000 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had initially given this device a semi-poor review, however after hooking it up through a powered USB hub (I was desperate, trying everything) it works beautifully.
If you are having sound quality issues (mine was a fluttery distortion) try a powered USB hub. My board is a brand new ASUS P5N-T Deluxe so I was very surprised that the USB ports are underpowered.
As for the headset, it is everything I wanted and more. I am a reasonably small guy and I have had many headsets that did not adjust down far enough to be comfortable. This one's smallest setting is perfect, however I wonder if the larger-headed folk out there would like it. It's width is not adjustable.
Sound quality is above reproach, with a surprisingly accurate 3D sound emulation. Now that it works I really can't say enough about it. Not overly thrilled with my new motherboard now, but that is another review :)

Kensington K72349US Wireless Mouse for Netbooks Review

Kensington K72349US Wireless Mouse for Netbooks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Kensington K72349US Wireless Mouse is exactly what my son wanted for his new laptop. We have used other wireless mice with the longer USB receivers that tend to get lost or damaged because they stick out of the computer. This mouse has a nano USB connector that is so small it can be left plugged in the laptop and forgotten.
Installation was literally plug and play after the two AAA batteries and the nano receiver were installed. The mouse was recognized by the Win 7 OS with no problems and was operating within a minute or so.
The mouse has very good ergonomics, despite being very small, and it feels great in the hand. I also like that it has an "On\Off" switch on the bottom that lets you make sure it is off when not in use.
A great little mouse! Highly Recommended!

Samsung UN55C6400 55" Class 1080p LED HDTV 2010 Model Internet Ready Review

Samsung UN55C6400 55 Class 1080p LED HDTV 2010 Model Internet Ready
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent weeks researching and testing various LCD/LED flat screens. In the end I purchased the Samsung 55 inch C6400. The C6400 model is the same screen as the C6300 model except the C6400 has Samsung's built-in internet apps whereas the C6300 does not. In the process, I purchased two Samsungs (C6400 and C6900) and one Sony Bravia (EX711). Here is what I learned:
* All of the review websites "calibrate" their screens before performing a review. During calibration the screen's default settings are changed to supposedly make them more accurate. Nifty features that are built into the screen like "Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio" are frequently disabled during calibration because they can affect the accuracy of the image. In my opinion, if a nifty feature in your television can make it appear brighter or more colorful, go for it. Color accuracy is overrated. What matters is whether *you* like the picture or not.
* Edge-lit screens like the Samsungs and Bravia I reviewed are thinner, lighter, and more eco-friendly than the full-array screens. In theory full-array screens give better contrast ratios, and require less picture manipulation to achieve said contrast ratios. To my untrained eyes, it's hard to see a difference.
* Dynamic edge-lit on the C6900 sounds like a good idea, but in my testing it created some weird affects that my wife, in particular, didn't care for where some parts of a dark image were pitch black and other parts of the same dark image were a brighter black, giving the appearance that someone turned on a spotlight down part of the screen.
* The blacks were darker on the C6400 than the C6900. Go figure.
* Edge-lit screens tend to hide the speakers on the back of the set. This produces a "reflected" sound that is decent, but not the best. We planned to purchase a theater system with our television so this didn't really matter to us.
* The Samsungs and Bravia screens came with a swivel stand. This was important for our living room set up.
* None of the Samsungs supported HDMI Auto Return Channel. Without ARC I have to power on the screen *and* the theater system to watch video from external devices like a blue ray player or game console. Not a big deal but it occasionally frustrates. The Bravia fully supported HDMI Audio Return Channel.
* When using motion blur reduction, the Samsungs have A/V sync issues in combination with our theater system. I have addressed this by increasing the audio delay in our theater system. It's not exactly perfect but it gets lip sync close enough that no one (except myself of course) ever notices it.
* All of the Samsung screens exhibited corner lighting and flashlighting to some degree. Each Samsung screen was slightly different. To see this, put the screen in Movie mode and view a uniform dark image in a pitch black room. You should see that the screen is slightly brighter in the corners and certain areas of the screen are also brighter (flashlighting). At first this really bothered me, but then I got used to it. There's simply no way you're going to notice this where it matters most: where the movie picture is playing. You'll only ever see it in a darkened room between scenes and around the edges where the movie isn't playing.
* Amazingly the Bravia didn't have *any* corner lighting or flashlighting. I don't know how Sony pulled that off, but I was impressed. Samsung should license Sony's edge lighting technology.
* The Samsungs all have a reflective screen which produces a really sharp and bright image that seems to pop off the screen. The Bravia uses a matte screen. I was baffled to observe that the Samsungs all handled reflections much better than the Bravia. There is a window directly behind our viewing sofa. With the Samsungs you were hard pressed to even see a reflection at all during daytime viewing. With the Bravia, the television was almost unwatchable during daylight hours. Reflections caused a blooming halo affect that was really dramatic. Score one for Samsung's "Ultra Clear Panel" technology.
* All the Samsungs handled SD content really well. SD content on the Bravia looked bad in comparison.
* The Bravia screen frequently exhibited really noisy colors, particularly with skin tones. This was much less of an issue with 1080p content, but was really annoying at times. The Samsungs never had this problem.
* The Samsungs use a remote control that is relatively simple and is backlit. My wife and kids had no issues picking it up and using it right away. The Bravia remote control was significantly more complicated and was not backlit.
* All the Samsungs employ mediocre motion blur reduction. Motion blur reduction helps minimize the stuttering affect during movement - especially panning shots. The problem is that unless it is set to Off or Clear, the Samsungs occasionally stuttered. In practice this isn't a problem as I actually prefer the Clear setting, but sometimes I want to dial this setting up for animated feature films (Cars, Toy Story, etc.) and it often doesn't work out well.
* The Bravia had kick-but motion blur reduction. I was really impressed. Everything was smooth and fluid. This may have been in part due to Sony's "True Cinema" technology.
* When I originally started out, I really wanted our new television to provide Netflix playback and DLNA media streaming. Despite what is advertised, Samsung's Netflix and DLNA support is poor. On both Samsungs, Netflix was constantly switching bitrates (about once a minute) and each time the picture disappear to black for about a quarter of a second. Audio was unaffected. I repeatedly took the exact same network cable and plugged it into other devices (PS3, Roku, Laptop) and Netflix playback was flawless HD. Samsung reportedly insists the problem is the user's internet service.
* None of the Samsungs or the Bravia I tested would connect to my DLNA server. I have approximately five streaming devices (Logitech music box, No-name streaming box, iPad, PS3, etc.) spread throughout my home and none have had any issue connecting to my DLNA server.
* The Bravia did have better Netflix support, however overall bitrate was still less than other devices (PS3, Roku, Laptop). A few video stalls (buffering) were experienced on the Bravia.
* In my opinion, the C6400 isn't worth the extra cost over the C6300. In my case I got a super deal on the C6400 so it wasn't an issue. Perhaps in another few years, these issues will get ironed out.

I agree with most reviews I've seen about this product. It is somewhat hard to connect at first, but once you get the feel of it, it improves. I like the way it lifts the computer so that all of the heat is not on your desk. It is definately a docking station, i.e. you don't want to take it around with you, so you have to shut down to take your laptop out. All in all, it does the job.

JBL On Time 200ID High-Performance Speaker Dock with AM/FM Radio for iPod (Black) Review

JBL On Time 200ID High-Performance Speaker Dock with AM/FM Radio for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The On Time 200ID has very clear, powerful sound. Very good FM radio reception with fully extended pigtail antenna. It has tons of features:
1. You can fully customize your alarm settings (wk day, wkend, spec day) and the buzzer has an ascending volume feature that gently wakes you up (same as in radio/i-pod settings)
2. Because it is digital, you can see the station info (e.g. current song, artist, call letters) and it simultaneously show the current time in bigger font than the radio station
3. fuly illuminated controls that I don't have a hard time finding them. the brightness is adjustable but some people may have some difficulty with it's lowest settings.
4. Although it doesn't have any bass or treble controls, it responds well when I adjust the EQ setting from my I-pod, AND the remote is a FULL FUNCTION remote (e.g. has menu and enter buttons) other Ipod radio remotes don't fully control the Ipod ( I have a 4G nano)
This is an excellent bedroom clock/radio/I-pod speaker system If you don't mind some brightness that looked like a night light beside your bed

DeLorme Earthmate LT-40 GPS Review

DeLorme Earthmate LT-40 GPS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a difficult item to review simply....in part because it is three different items (hardware, software, compatibility). I'll review them separately. I am an established Delorme customer, with a long history of their products (10-12 states of TopoQuads, a Xmap license, both 1.0 and 2.0 versions of 3D TopoQuad software).
The GPS unit itself is really a gem of a product in its own right and an update of the earlier Earthmate GPS units. I rate the LT-40 highly (5/5). It is small light and accurate/fast, from my experience. On a cross-country trip, it rarely was off the road centerline. My only gripe is very poor (well -- Non! ) support of this unit in earlier software products XMAP and 3DTopoQuads. This is not documented by Delorme, and in fact there is an Earthmate link and a USB option in the earlier software. Also, their web site suggests it should work, and there are instructions for installing a Serial-USB emulator that will allow it to work as an NMEA device (it didn't work!). I also obtained some support from Delorme trying to get it to operate. But their tech support had to eventually say "we don't guarantee backward compatibility..." for their own product to work with their own product. 5/5 (but see compatibility below...)
The software is good to work with in 2-D mode and follows the tried-true Delorme right panel/bottom panel navigation model. The 3-D mode does have a nice "big number" mode that is useful on the road, although the 3-D view reminds one of a bad video game and is only useful for people who absolutely cannot read maps. The routes one chooses do have to be checked and if necessary "fine tuned" by adding "via" points, but that is surely true of all navigation software. I like the customizable preferences for speed/road type. Yes the Microsoft Mary and Mike voices are dreary, but one can't blame that on Delorme (I am waiting for Microsoft Obama.....with proceeds going to the Hillary campaign fund!!). But the voice interface has great potential for vehicle work, and I plan to experiment with a microphone for software control. Voice speed can also be tinkered with, and we found that slowing Mike down made him more understandable. My main complaint is that the top-line interface is non-intuitive, with no "File/Edit" bar and just a bunch of fairly non-customizable icons. 4/5
Compatibibility: poor. No, completely lame. I think it is unconscionable how poor the support of the LT-40 is for earlier Delorme TopoQuad software, and, for that matter, why can't Street Atlas support earlier state 3-D topo quads. This is either bad design/engineering by Delorme, or extortion of users to have to re-purchase data products (I have $1500 or so invested now). This is complicated by the fact that the state TopoQuad series no longer exists and one now has to purchase the whole country in DVD (same maps...) to get new software that will work with this GPS. Come on guys -- patch your supported products to allow us to use the LT-40 with Topo Quads, or patch street atlas to work with topo quads. If the LT-40 is not supported by earlier Delorme products then you should at least have the courage (chutzpah?) to state this in black and white in marketing materials and on your web site.0/5
Average 3/5 for an excellent little GPS unit, from a very frustrated Delorme user.....

Speck Products See Thru Satin, Soft Touch Hard Shell Case, for Pro 15-inch MacBook Aluminum Unibody/Black Keyboard (Pink) Review

Speck Products See Thru Satin, Soft Touch Hard Shell Case, for Pro 15-inch MacBook Aluminum Unibody/Black Keyboard (Pink)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am revising my review from a 1 star to 5 star rating! speck has apparently modified the product to eliminate my issue that it did not fit the new, 2010 MBP 15".
This product has been modified to perfectly fit the 2010 15" MBP. The revised ones have a blue sticker on the box right-hand side about midway down which says "Yep, it fits! the new MacBook Pro with 90 degree MagSafe."
I did buy it in person at the Apple Store though. They appear to have new stock of the product which has this sticker. I can't say for sure if Amazon has this new, revised model in stock OR if they have older model. If you order online, etc. from Amazon or Apple and it doesn't have this sticker I'd return it for one that does.
And, it works and looks great!! Just as advertised. I got the black, SeeThru Satin. I like the extra "grip" that the Satin variety/model supplies. Less likely to slip out of your hand than their non-Satin model (which I personally find very attractive visually but, a bit too slippery) - especially at the airport where you are constantly taking your laptop in and out of your baggage. Highly recommended. Easy to install or remove.
They have also modified their regular, SeeThru product line as well. The ones that fit the April 2010 model have the same blue sticker as noted above.
Kudos to speck for addressing this issue!
Again, owners of the newer 2010 MBP MUST look for ones that have this blue sticker. However, this is not at all an issue for owners of earlier MBPs. All models will fit it.
------------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE SPECK PRODUCTS IF YOU HAVE A NEW APRIL, 2010 MBP!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a design issue with the back left clip on the bottom cover. It sticks out too far for the new horizontal Mac A/C adapter to fit properly into the slot. The problem is the same for both their See Thru Satin and Soft Touch Hard Shell lines. Apple is now delivering with the April, 2010 MBP a new style power adapter like the ones that came with the air books. And because of the tang that snaps on to the left back corner of machine it will not properly connect when the Speck case is attached without turning the connector toward the ports and thus it blocks the Ethernet port. SO unless you have a previous power block the frustration begins. Speck will have to redesign the way the case snaps onto the MBP.
I contacted Speck and they are aware of this problem and they say they are working on a new design.
Speck replied:
"Yes our cases will fit however the power cord is now horizontal and not vertical so it interferes with the case by about 1 mm. It will charge but at a slight angle. You can run the cord forward but it will block some ports. I have no ETA on when an out of the box perfect case fit will be released by us by some customers have slightly modified the case with a metal nail file, Dremel or Exacto knife and it works fine."
Personally, I'm not making this a DIY project. Especially when you could ruin a $50 case in the process.
I will re-post once they have a satisfactory solution to this issue.

Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset Review

Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What a sigh of relief. After purchasing the Motorola HS850 and having a horrible experience (see my review), I thought Bluetooth technology was a lost cause. However, based on many reviews I saw right here about the Voyager 510, I decided to try it one more time and bingo, just what I was looking for. So first the negatives for the skeptics like myself:
1. The 510 is bulkier than the Motorola HS850 and does not fold up to easily fit in your pocket. I am afraid that I will brake it at times, but it has held up to mild abuse in my pocket.
2. It is difficult at times to get on your ear. It is very flexible, which makes for added comfort, but makes it difficult to position on your ear initially.
3. The power button is very difficult to use when the headset is on your ear. This is a huge drawback, especially since it is difficult to get on your ear. This is such a pain that I dropped my rating from a 5 star to 4 star. There has been a few times that I forgot to turn the device on before placing it on my ear and I have to take it off to turn it on because the power button is difficult to find and push.
4. The device is not too sexy, but I could care less because I was looking for utility not a piece of jewelry. For those of you who do care, it doesn't look as good as the HS850. However, a piece of advice, you don't need to put the sponge over the mic. It looks much better if you just install the ear piece but keep the mic bare.
As you can tell by my 4 stars, the positives far outweigh the negatives:
1. It works! I can hear everyone clearly and they can hear me, even if I am driving. I haven't tried it in the airport yet, but it has worked superbly in all the other environments in which I daily encounter noise including walking around in the city. This is totally opposite my experience with the HS850.
2. It was relatively easy to program to my phone.
3. Although heavier and bulkier than the HS850, it is much more comfortable on my ear and stays in place as I walk. The HS850 tended to dangle and not stay in place.
4. It is easy to answer and hang-up a call with just a press of the button on the side of the headset.
5. Great battery life that last longer than the talk time on my phone.
6. 3 different ear pieces that are each shaped differently are included, so you can get the right fit for you. I found one that fit my ear great and I can hear crystal clear with it.
7. And let me stress again that I have not had anyone complain that they could not hear me and I can hear others as if I have a wired headset. This headset is truly great if you are looking for a device that works with a Blackberry.
And that is the word of D Critique!

For the ultimate in wireless freedom, look no further than the Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset, which represents a generational leap in Bluetooth headset technology. It's comfortable and light enough for all day wear, and it offers unprecedented clarity and sound quality. These are great features, but the real revolution involves Plantronics' exclusive Multipoint technology, which allows the headset to function as a powerful communication solution for up to two Bluetooth devices.
With Multipoint technology you can switch between your voice-enabled Bluetooth mobile phone, PDA or laptop. The headset's "smart" technology knows which device you are using and allows you to take calls from any device at the touch of a button. With the optional Plantronics Bluetooth Deskphone Adapter you can even switch between your office phone and your Bluetooth mobile phone. You'll never need to use a dedicated "landline" phone headset again.

The 510 features WindSmart technology, which enhances call clarity in windy environments (i.e., car with window/roof open, air conditioning on, outside with breeze), and it folds for easy storage. The boom also swivels for perfect positioning on either ear. One-touch call control buttons are placed for easy access, and you can easily redial the last number dialed and initiate voice-activated calls from the headset. Because the 510 is Bluetooth-enabled (it supports the Bluetooth 1.2 specification) you can roam up to 33 feet from your Bluetooth device. Meanwhile, the 510 supports adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) which helps avoid interference from Wi-Fi networks. Ample talk time is provided by the built-in rechargeable battery; you'll get up to 6 hours talk time and up to 100 hours of standby time.

Specifications

Talk time: Up to 6 hours
Standby time: Up to 100 hours

Acer Aspire One AOD255-2184 10.1-Inch Netbook (Sandstone) Review

Acer Aspire One AOD255-2184 10.1-Inch Netbook (Sandstone)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this little netbook for about a week now, and it is exactly right for our purposes: email, browsing, YouTube, MiniClip games, and word processing. It comes with Office 2010 starter (just word and excel) which is all we need. I'm not a techie and have no specifics to share, but this thing just WORKS. Right out of the box, you spend 10 minutes setting up, charge it up, and go. The first time you use Office you need to install it. I followed the recommendation of some other reviewers and (1) uninstalled some bloatware it came with (Acer games, NY Times Reader) and (2) installed Chrome and made it the default browser. IE was taking forever to load anything, but Chrome is much lighter and works perfectly. And the wireless is impressive-- it works even way down the long narrow hallway in my thick-brick-walls 1850's apartment building from where the router is placed-- our old Vaio couldn't handle it. The red is a nice warm cranberry/barn red shade-- a little pizzaz but it doesn't look like a toy. It's very light. It has no disk drive, but I see here on Amazon that inexpensive external ones are easy to find.
Two small gripes: (1) battery life is pretty short. Three hours at the most. It does charge up quickly though. (2) The keys are that sort of 'mushroom' format, they look just made for crumbs to sneak under and get stuck, and with kids in the house I feel the need to be protective. But obviously I need to do that anyway. And for less than $300 we won't be devastated even if the worst happens. Overall I could not be more pleased with this purchase!
I recommend the HP Mini case to go with this, black with silver swirls. It's just the right size, well made and very cushiony and protective.
