This is basically a thick skin of plastic that will definitely protect against scratches. Be advised that it does not come with a screen protector! Although it doesn't protect the screen the rest is well worth it if you're willing to take a little time to get all the pieces on correctly. This will come with a little spray bottle (unless you opt for the dry version) and a little card to help push out air bubbles and excess liquid. The first time you apply one of these skins it will take some time, but I can imagine the second time and every time there after should be fairly quick to install. With the spray you can slide the pieces into place fairly easy and then use the card to expel the excess liquid so it'll stick into place. The skin is just a little smaller than your computer but that's actually a good thing, you can stretch it out a little and that stretching is what will help the corners mold to your computer. At first the corners won't seem to stick down because the Macbook Pro is curved but keep working the corners with the card and stretching them a bit and they'll begin to grab onto the computer. I found it best to squeegee the liquid out with the card and then wipe the edge with a napkin to keep my computer from being too wet. I was afraid I was going to screw it up because I got most of the bubbles out but still had a few bubbles that I thought would be there after it dried. I was tired of messing with it and thought I could live with it. Low and behold, when it dried the little bubbles disappeared! You'll definitely see a bunch of tiny bubbles now and then that almost look like someone spit under it but don't worry if you can't get those out, just get most of the liquid and when it dries the bubbles WILL go away. Make sure you don't stretch the protecter past the edges. If you do when it dries it'll catch on your hands or your blanket or whatever you put your computer on. Just stretch it close to the edge as you can without hanging over.
After installation let it sit and dry. Make sure you check the corners to make sure they are sticking down before you let it sit to dry. They tend to come up while you're busy installing the other little pieces around the computer. You may be looking at your computer after you have everything done thinking "Man, it looks alright... but I could have done a better job... I see streaks under there that I can't get out..." I thought that but through the drying process it took out any streaks I couldn't get and it really makes my computer look nice. It's all shiny and feels nice. It looks like a factory install!
Skinomi makes protectors for a select number of other popular electronics. You would probably be better off buying it through Skinomi.com use the discount code "get25" and save 25%. If that doesn't work just google a discount for it. I paid roughly $41 for mine. If you have the Macbook Pro 15" you may have to order the dry version... The only difference I see in it is that the dry version doesn't come with the spray, only two wet-naps. If you can get ahold of some spray (really all it is is water and a little detergent... spray some water on your hands and protector as you apply and you'll be fine) then you'd be better off. It's much easier when you can slide it into place. Good luck!
