(More customer reviews)When you attach this drive to a computer it automatically loads a virtual CD titled Iomega. On that CD is an old version of the Iomega Encryption Utility. This virtual CD is as much a benefit to this hard drive as a nail is to a car tire. You have to pull out the nail and patch the hole to make it usable. It's a similar process with the Virtual CD. You need to find an updated copy of the Encryption Utility, create an account with Iomega, download the 80Mb file, install it (on a PC) and use it to remove the virtual CD. Do this before you put anything on the drive because it will wipe the drive in the process. No, formatting the drive won't remove the virtual CD, I already checked.
This is all particularly annoying for me because I'm on a mac with a slow internet connection. This is a 30 minute download, just so I can copy the utility to a PC to remove the virtual CD before moving the drive back to format it as a mac partition. This drive may be a 2.5" drive, but it's thicker than my laptop. For a portable hard drive that's not good.
I may come back and raise the number of stars on this review if it's a particularly amazing drive, but for now it's stuck with two stars because it's taken an hour to copy a 1 Mb file... 59:30 to download the utility and format the drive and :30 for the file.

If you opened the Encryption Utility then it installed in the background on your computer. You MUST uninstall 1.0 before you can open/install 1.3. 1.3 will trick you by opening 1.0 if it's installed. No warnings or anything.
