(More customer reviews)I've been looking for a replacement laptop for a while now for general home use. I wanted something that was portable, had good battery life, and had good all-around performance. Something that would multitask well while running office productivity apps, the web, and some light photo editing apps. I looked at a ton of laptops, both online and in person. Asus made some decent models as did Samsung, but they were all in the $800+ price range and the battery life wasn't as good as this models. So after a lot of research I purchased this Acer Aspire and I couldn't be happier.
I work in as a network engineer and got the box delivered to my office. Upon opening it my co-workers were all impressed by the size and finish of this unit. They all thought that I had dropped $1000+ on it. They couldn't believe it cost less than $700. I've been very happy with how it runs also. It's not the fastest laptop out there and I wouldn't try to editing HD Video on it, but it's very snappy for most tasks. I feel like the battery life is maybe a little lower than advertised but that also has a lot to do with what power options you have setup. I'm sure that if I dimmed the screen and turned off my wireless connection I could get 7+ hours out of this unit. Typically though I need to be connected to wireless and I like the screen brightness turned up so I get about 4.5 to 5 hours of battery life. I still feel like that's very reasonable and definitely long enough to keep you for having to look for a power outlet all the time.
The built quality seems fairly high. I haven't opened it up so I don't know what the frame is made out of, but the laptop in general feels very sturdy. It's a great weight and very thin which as mentioned above gives it a high end, expensive appearance. The fan is very quiet and most of the time you don't notice it at all. Even better is that the laptop doesn't get hot after using it for a long period of time. The laptop's keyboard is nice and it didn't take me any time to get used to it. The actual keys themselves seem a little loose, but none of them have fallen off and there really isn't any indication they ever will. It just seems like they aren't attached super well for some reason (time will tell I guess). Other than that I really love this laptop so far and would recommend it to anyone.
