This is a good little USB network adaptor and works as advertised.
Background: I have a Dell laptop with an internal network card. I travel a lot and use it in hotels and hot spots quite a bit. The signal I was getting on the internal card with its two internal antenna's was weaker then I would like and usually doesn't get a strong enough signal to maintain 54 Mbps speed. I was usually down around 11 Mbps in a hotel room. Sometimes I have had to move to a different room, move to a balcony, or a certain point in the room to get a signal at all. In one hotel room I checked signal right after checking in and I could only get a usable signal near the door holding the computer up near the ceiling. I had to walk around the hotel to find a group of rooms that I thought would work and then coordinate with he front desk on availability and change rooms.
I researched many options, reading reviews, etc. Most other options were more expensive or problematic, including modifying my computer to install an external antenna. I looked at USB cards with the mail plug that plug into the computer without using an extension, pcmcia cards with external antenna's, directional antenna's, etc. Most of the reviews I read were from kids "War Driving" but still shed some light on how well this card works.
What I got: I went with the Alpha because of good reviews I read, and the fact that I can remote locate it using an extension giving more options then one mounted to the computer. The unit looks pretty cheap being plastic. Nothing special. It came with the two antennas. I ordered the two extension cables. One is passive and one is active (active is required for longer extensions).
Functionality/Results: It works well. So far I have not been in a Hotel where I didn't get an 88% or better connection (signal strength) with 85 or 90% link quality or better, and more importantly a link with 54 Mbps speed. I get many more signals too, but that is not what I was looking for in most cases. I have tried it in a dozen or so hotels and played with outside signals a bit. There are a lot of them out there.
The ability to move the antenna 10 to 25 feet away could be useful to get it on a balcony, outside a window, get around a concrete wall, etc. but I haven't had to do that yet with the Alpha. Once in the Bahamas, using the computers internal card, I had to get out on a balcony with a 40 mph wind coming off the ocean that would knock over the laptop if I didn't hold on to it, to get a clear shot to the hotel main building where the router was located. I had to weather the salt spray and either had to hold the computer screen to keep it from swaying so I could see it or hold my wine glass to keep it from tipping over. I needed three hands and it was a tough decision as to which two things to hold. That is when I decided to order this card. I read about folks on sail boats running the Alpha up the mast and getting a signal 4 or 10 miles off shore and putting the unit in a zip-loc bag to keep it out of the elements.
If I had modified my computer for an external antenna, or gotten a pcmcia card with external antenna, I could have run coaxial cable to a remote antenna to get the same position benefits, but the signal losses are large that way and signal cuts in half with every few feet of coax. With this adapter the antenna is run right into the transmitter/receiver and there is no loss, however you still have the ability to remote locate it up high in a room, outside a window, on a balcony, etc. without the loss. You don't get the signal loss from a USB cable, although you do run out of power if run too far. 25 feet with the two supplied cables is plenty for me.
Power: The high power is meaningless and probably a lie. I think they are claiming equivalent radiated power with a good antenna to some poor antenna standard like the antenna's printed on a pcmcia adapter card circuit board or something. Anyway it is not really a 1000mW adapter, but it does work well. The allowable power output is somewhat complicated but is based on radiated power (the combined effect of the transmitter and antenna). Anyway a balance of output power, receiver sensitivity, and selectivity is what is important and this one does a good job. It gets quite warm too only having passive cooling (vents).
Antenna's: Like many folks have reported, the big antenna doesn't seem to work any better for me then the little one. Sometimes it will get a slightly stronger signal and more signals with it, but the link quality (signal to noise ratio) is worse. The little antenna has worked fine in all cases so far and just as well as the big one on comparison.
Software: The software installed easily for me with Windows XP and I have had no problems. The software is between OK to fairly nice. I can still enable my internal card and use it when the signal is strong and I don't want to carry the Alpha. I disable it when using the Alpha.
Works great. Hope it last a long time.
If you are looking for solutions for your home (or work) because of problems with range on your Wifi you might also try one of the homemade paper directional parabolic antenna's that you print off from the internet. They really work and also increase security if positioned properly by directing coverage to within your house and decreasing coverage outside. They work will with this unit too. Requires a router with external antenna(s). You can also put one on the antenna of the Alpha and beam signals between the router and the Alpha. Quite effective. You print out a template from the internet, cutout a couple pieces of paper, cover one with foil or aluminum tape, stick the parabolic template together to the flat sheet to form the shape, and position the unit on the antenna of your router. Just do a search on "DIY windsurfer parabolic WIFI antenna" as Amazon doesn't' allow links. Also watch one of the Vid's on it.

Pioneer VSX-820-K 5.1 Home Theater Receiver Review

Pioneer VSX-820-K 5.1 Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After trying a Denon, and two Yamaha's, I finally hit gold with the Pioneer VSX-820.
This is a superb receiver in all regards. It produces clear crisp sound in all modes.
There are no lip synch issues at all when linked to my HDTV. I had terrible lip synch problems with the Denon. It has all the features I need and more and has an excellent remote that is both intuitive and comprehensive. I use my receiver for CD's, FM radio and my Samsung HDTV. I use DishNetwork for my TV programming.
The VSX series is Pioneer's newest and includes several models all the way up to the 1120.
However, when you read the specs, all these receivers have the same tuner and power plant. The higher the model number, the more numerous the features. But no increase in output.
That makes for an easier buying decision. You don't compromise power for features if you chose a mid range model like the 820 or 920. I noticed that the Denon and Yamaha receivers I tried were made in China. The Pioneers are made in Japan. I'll go with Japan for high quality electronics every time. Pioneer has hit a homerun with this new series of receivers.Update January 20,2011
My accolades now need to be tempered back. As with all 'features', they are only good
as long as they last. The IPOD interface on my VSX 820 died today in mid-song. I reviewed the manual and took the steps recommended, including resetting my IPOD with
no results. The IPOD works just fine. So I will no longer be able to hear my songs
thru my system but will instead have to be satisfied with just using the headphones.
Very disappointed with the lack of durability of this Pioneer receiver.

150Mbps WIFI USB WIRELESS LAN ADAPTER 802.11 B/G/N Review

So I have been using this adapter for just over a week. My router is in the next room, 7 feet away, and while I do have continuous signal, I only get one bar out of 5 the majority of the time. I won't complain for the price, but I would be hesitant in buying this if you were using it at a farther distance from your router. I would try discovering the range it has myself, however I am using a desktop PC and not a laptop. Hope this may help others in their decision.

Samsung Epic 4G Android Phone (Sprint) Review

Samsung Epic 4G Android Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing around with both phones and because I belong to Sprint for the rest of my life's tenure, I shall let you know that these are the two best phones available in the market but let's compare which is better at what.Appearance - The Evo 4G does not have a slide-out QWERTY keypad like the Epic. The Epic despite the keyboard is about an ounce lighter in weight and that says a lot about the AMOLED screen and the absolutely flawless design on this phone. The charging port is located on the TOP of the phone and also has a little slide you need to drag open before accessing the MICRO USB/Charger. The phone looks a terrific black (like the best looking iPhone, oh yeah we care, no sarcasm) when the screen is not on. UNLIKE THE EVO, the standby key is on the right hand side of the phone and does the same thing. On first appearance, the design of the Epic is mouth watering. I've always found Sidekick like phones cheesy and even that DROID from VERIZON looks very plastic to me but I shall diss no more, the Epic might just win on this account (but I know plenty of Evo users who would disagree but this is my opinion). Because of size, weight, 4-inch screen (Evo's 4.3), design of the slide out, the Epic wins this round. Call Reception / Loud Speaker -> While playing music, I noticed the Epic was a little louder than the Evo is but at full volume, it can be a tad too loud too which is obviously such a WELCOME FEATURE. The Evo has a loud speaker alright and also a dedicated home page where you can easily play your music but what matters is the sound because both phones offer excellent customization.Battery Life - This is one of the primary reasons the Epic is likely to do good. I fume when I hear people say the DROID X has a better battery life than the Evo. On Epic, the AMOLED screen ensures you don't need to charge this phone more than once a day. I managed to make this last for atleast a day but I did find the battery readings to be inaccurate from time to time. Maybe this happened because I was trying the phone on Airplane mode and then switching to CDMA so that could be it. There was a difference in the battery life, sometimes the bar would be short and sometimes substantially longer. Maybe it is just a software update that is required but at the end of the day, You can have all the features on a phone but what matters a lot is battery life and the Epic takes this round too. By getting the Evo you will need to buy an extra battery unless you like carrying your wires everywhere you go. If you're getting the Evo make sure you get an extra battery charger and oh save yourself some money and NEVER INVEST ON EXTENDED BATTERIES. You wouuld think Samsung and HTC are more clever than not to have come out with the extended battery in the first place. Feel free to discuss, throw things at me on the comments column.Screen Brightness - HTC Evo is about AS BRIGHT AS THE SUN, absolutely incredible brightness, it's like watching the most expensive HDTV sometimes. The phone even on low brightness is surprisingly bright and I always appreciate brightness. While the Epic is not dull, I'll be lying if I say the screen is as bright as the Evo or even comes close to taking this round. The Epic has a jaw dropping display but the brightness and screen quality while you're on a webpage makes Evo the winner here. The brightness may come at the price of battery life but when you drive a HUMMER, you worry not about the battery life but about the drive.Build Quality of Plastic on the BACK - The Evo certain feels a little more solid and smooth. The back on the EVO is better than the INCREDIBLE. Evo's kickstand is an added feature but the quality of the plastic on the Evo is 15% better than the Epic when you're holding the back though Epic is quite good as it is. **Caution** Do not remove Epic's back size by the SPEAKER, you may damage the phone cause you're such a strong individual, locate a small opening at the end and then LIFT UP the back plastic covering the battery. The back is obviously not RED like the HTC EVO.Bundled Accessories - Epic comes with a 16gb card, in ear earphones, a thicker BASIC manual I haven't opened and read yet. The Evo comes with an 8gb card and no earphones. They both come with a Micro USb Cord which coverts into a wall charger. I have tried and used almost all earphones bundled with phones and have never seen any Sprint phone with such good quality "in-ear" earphones which provide NOISE CANCELLATION. An excellent extra for the fifty bucks you pay depending on where you're buying the phones from. 16gb is like having 2 x 8gb cards.Mobile Hotspot - DRAWTask Killer App - If you hold the home button down on the Epic, an excellent task killer pops up. It is so easy and fun to use that this alone was a big big big deal for me. I've used it on the Evo before but it's just so much hassle free and cleaner on the Samsung, it tells you the percentage of the CPU being used for variety of apps in REAL TIME! Deal-MAKER for me. EVO owners, please correct me if I'm wrong.CAMERA *BIG DEAL FOR ME* - Epic. Epic. Epic. Epic. The customization is Godly. Samsung is slowly becoming very clever. The camera quality is that of a digital camera, I dare say. Also if people are moving and pause for a second, the phone still takes an absolutely astounding photograph. The Evo makes things yellow and although it's 8megapixel, the camera doesn't quite seal the deal. The other thing is that the Evo doesn't have that many customizations for the camera. Samsung has pulled a magic trick with this one. Some envious Evo users tell me that because the screen looks better on the Epic, the images look better but if I were to upload these to my computer, there'd be a difference. This is my response to people who say something like that. How often will I be uploading these pictures? Maybe once in four days, I will be mostly viewing them on the phone so I don't care about that. Mind you, though I haven't uploaded anything yet, I shall upload them and send you a sample picture if you request one. PLEASE BARE IN MIND, while the SAMSUNG has more options, it will take a real techoholic to want to figure out each and every feature, I'm still getting WARMED up to it.Google Sync - The google sync on both phones immediately got all my contacts into the phone, there are a ton of applications so if you have a gmail account even with a blackberry, all your contacts are gonna be SYNCED with either the EVO or the EPIC. Google has a very funny deal-sealing way of having the google sync on the BLACKBERRY. If you're dumping your blackberry, make sure you do google sync and sync all your contacts before activating the EPIC. Ask a store rep to do it for you before buying it BLINDLY from them.

BROWSING - Browsing on the Evo is the best browsing I have ever seen. It still wins over the Epic by just a single point. Epic still gets a 9/10 while Evo because of it's multi-touch gets a perfect 10. There is no lag while browsing or using the touchscreen at all. This is a dream come true for people who've ever had the Samsung Instinct from two years ago. These two phones make my Blackberry look so bad and that's one thing to love and admire about Androids, the fact that they have such capable awesomse fast, intelligent browsers. I have no complaints whatsoever. I have an iPod touch and its half as good at best and I'll tell you the iPod touch is amazing. EVO wins by a life because it's the best at it. Epic is still about two and a half times as good as my Sprint BOLD.On-Screen Typing : On screen typing on the Evo is way better because of HTC's on screen Qwerty. Swype comes built in with the EPIC. I've never used it, I don't believe in it, just looks too cheesy. Evo has a great typing mechanism but EPIC assumes that unless you're typing casually, you will use the physical keyboard to type. The Evo's typing is better than the iPhone's or the iPods. I haven't played with the iPhone 4 yet.
SLIDE OUT / PHYSICAL KEYBOARD : I will go for the Epic over the Evo because it has a wonderful, non-cheesy, idiot proof keyboard slide out. This is the best addition possible besides the camera and the bundled accessries. I despise the Moment's keyboard in comparison though Moment isn't a bad phone. The EVO is supposed to be Sprint and Samsung's replacement for the SAMSUNG MOMENT. I've been away from my 2 day old Epic. I will discover more things and shall let you know. Any cons? The capacitive keys on the front could've been a touch more responsive. On the Evo they seem more responsive. I'm in no hurry for the Samsung Epic to get 2.2 and I'm sure they won't disappoint. Wallpapers look brighter, more alive, sleeker, sexier, more sophisticated on the Epic. When you're in your menu on the Evo you go from top to bottom while on the Epic, if you click Applications you go left right right right. So it's horizontal menu browsing on the Epic and vertical on the Evo.There is so much more for me to discover. I told someone earlier this year that no phone will ever match the iPhone but technology has an astounding way of shocking me. I'm an absolute geek and am glad that the Epic exists. It's like action sequences on the Lord of the Rings : Twin Towers while Evo is like the Matrix chase scenes from Reloaded. Both are feature packed phones but I love to type and the additional keyboard is fantastic for typing.Wi-Fi Browsing : If both phones were used on the Wifi, the Epic is blazingly fast and obviously an easy hands down winner. I didn't try browsing on both using the 3G signal in Manhattan though it loaded a...Read more›

Additionally, the phone can still connect to 3G data services in areas not currently served by Sprint's 4G network (learn more about Sprint's 4G network below).

The Epic 4G has a large 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display that provides brighter, thinner, and higher-resolution than traditional screens. Samsung's innovative display technology makes watching movies, viewing videos and playing games come to life like never before, even in bright light and outdoor environments. Running the Android 2.1 operating system, the Epic 4G brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services millions use every day, including Google Search by Voice, YouTube, and Picasa. The Epic 4G also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day.

Learn MoreSwype Keyboard
An alternative to the Android virtual keyboard, the Swype virtual keyboard allows you to input text by swiping the finger with one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard. Based on testing, speed and accuracy are equal to or better than the traditional keyboard-tapping method. You can activate the Swype keyboard by pressing and holding in a text field, wait for popup to appear, click Input Method, and then select Swype.

In the image to the left, the word "quick" was generated from tracing the path shown above in a fraction of a second, by roughly aiming to pass through the letters of the word. A key advantage to Swype is that there is no need to be very accurate, enabling very rapid text entry.
Switching between 3G and 4G coverage
When switching between 3G and 4G coverage, the Samsung Epic 4G may experience a very brief interruption of data service as the device switches network connections. During this brief interruption, applications attempting to access data may be unable to do so and may display an error message. Below are some examples of how to proceed if an error message appears on the device. Other data-usage applications may experience a very brief interruption and will continue functioning once the network handoff is complete.

Razer Orochi Bluetooth Notebook Gaming Mouse Review

Razer Orochi Bluetooth Notebook Gaming Mouse
Average Reviews:

I purchased this mouse after having lag issues with my Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse over bluetooth. The MS mouse would lag behind my movements. Really bad when using my bluetooth headset on Skype or MS communicator. The Orochi totally fixed that issue for me! :) I recently bought a Razer Naga and was convinced of the quality of their mice. This is definitely a Razer mouse. Things you expect like a braided cable for wired mode, solid construction and the soft matte finish on the top with glossy sides are all there.
In thinking of a good way to review this mouse I realized a pattern. What I thought was my mobile mouse wish-list turned out to not be quite what I really wanted. The design of the Orochi had the features I didn't know I wanted.
It is a little larger than my previous mobile mouse, BUT it sits better in the hand and is more comfortable in long term use.
It isn't specifically ergonomically designed for right hand use, BUT the excellent ambidextrous design ends up feeling like it was custom designed for whatever hand you use.
It isn't rechargeable, BUT the AA batteries last longer.
The battery compartment is under the top buttons and not on the bottom, BUT it attaches via 3 magnets and is much easier to open/close.
Sure LEDs eat battery power, BUT they come on only when you move the mouse and go off when you stop (this is really fun to watch haha!) - note: you can also disable them for maximum battery life
There are a few key things to know when choosing this mouse
1) When not in wired mode the polling rate and dpi can not go as high. This is due to the bluetooth protocol design and not Razer's. They could have used a custom dongle like on the Mamba, but that would mean something else to carry and use to have wireless connectivity. Bluetooth was a good tradeoff. If you want ultimate performance, plug in the cable. You've got it in your included carrying case right?
2) The mouse's settings are stored on the mouse itself (very cool). If you want to reprogram them you have to plug in the cable. Again a tradeoff for bluetooth. Not bad, just something to be aware of. You can have 5 application profiles which change according to the game/app in use (or manually).
3) There are two buttons on each side. The ones on the opposite side from your thumb are not so easy to reach in the heat of action. This however allows for the ambidextrous design. By default these step through your pre-defined dpi sensitivity stages and are well designed to stay that way or use for actions you don't need as frequently.
I'm grasping to think of any real "con" against this mouse. If I had to say two things I would like changed it would be: Make it so the wheel can both ratchet and free-scroll (I got used to free scrolling when not gaming) and have the side buttons not recess quite so far as the bottom edge of the top matte part is kind of sharp.
If you are looking for a portable sized gaming mouse or have a Razer on your desktop already and want to take the experience with you pick one up!
Small update:
I just got my Kabuto mouse surface and I noticed that the on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse is a bit loose in the on position. This won't make it accidentally turn off, but it does make it jostle around a little on a surface that isn't perfectly flat (the kabuto is a bit bumpy from being rolled up in the package). This doesn't affect the mouse use or performance at all, just makes a little rattling noise when mousing.

Diablotek EN3525D Hard Drive Dock - 2.5"/3.5" SATA I/II to USB 2.0 Review

Diablotek EN3525D Hard Drive Dock - 2.5/3.5 SATA I/II to USB 2.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The picture looks exactly like another product that's more expensive. So I bought this instead to save a few bucks (and I can't use the eSATA interface the other product offers on my home computer). The drive spun up, the lights came on, and nobody was home, with my brand new Seagate drive not being recognizable to my Windows 7 system. In Customer Support, the lights are on and nobody is home at Diablotek, as well. The documentation is almost nonexistent, providing little beyond how to plug it in. So I decided to return it to Amazon.
But, with a little curiosity and one single brain cell still connected to an ancient Windows experience from a decade ago, I told Disk Management in Windows 7 that yes, I really do want to use this disk drive that we all agree is right there, and from that point things magically started working.
Here's the steps I needed to make this work in Windows 7 (conceptually identical in this regard to other MS Operating systems of the last 10 years): Start Menu, right click on Computer, left click on Manage, right click on the drive that my computer could find but didn't want to use yet (get this right, and don't pick the wrong one, OK?). Then I could either activate the partition or format the drive. This is not exactly user friendly.
So how, you ask, can I recommend this product. The answer is that it is an extremely inexpensive solution to a very large problem: How do I maintain large, off-site, low cost disk backups in a format that can be mounted on any computer, anytime? This is a perfect solution, in that it results in a standard SATA drive at less than $75/TB which I could keep in a desk drawer at work, and which, if installed in any other windows PC, instantly would provide access to my data.
The USB interface is slow, taking almost 20 hours to copy 500GB. But after the initial copy, the backup software I use (Folderclone) takes less than 10 minutes to figure out which of my millions of files and Email messages need to be copied or deleted in order to have an exact replica (some are pictures I took yesterday, some date back to when we booted computers by rubbing floppy disks with magnets). A daily backup typically takes less than 30 minutes.

Mini-DVI to DVI-D Adapter Cable for Apple Mac Review

Mini-DVI to DVI-D Adapter Cable for Apple Mac
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I already have the 'real' Apple adapter but needed a second one for my home office. This is EXACTLY like the Apple one. Upon close examination, the plastic molds and connectors look like they came from the same factory. The cable looks the same except it doesn't have the writing that is on the Apple cable. Even the package looks like Apple's- plastic bag with flat black cardboard seal. This is either a great Chinese knock-off (although they're all from China anyway) or it's simply an unlabeled version of the exact same cable.
BTW, for the first few weeks the connector was a bit harder to push in than my old one. And now that I remember, my old one was like this too when it was new. So give it a few weeks and it will 'click' much smoother.

1. the workmanship and detail is good
2. spend the 88 $ and upgrade ram to eight gig (website is wrong )
3. make a set of recovery discs as soon as you get it
4. get a solid state drive or hybrid drive as it runs alot faster with them (500gig hybrid on amazon like 97$ now )
5. note - linux fans out there- you wont be able to dual boot this puppy as there's an issue with AMD chipset. I tried for 2 weeks and couldnt get it . Currently using ubuntu 11.04 with the old classic interface as unity sucks IMO. (my skill level at computers is novice - intermediate so if you can get it to duo boot then Guess I should wear a plastic helmet)
6. Spend an extra 35$ and get an external DVD rw drive for making the recovery discs and putting software on.
7 Comes with win 7 professional and IE 9- if you gonna use this may take some tweaking to get the bloatware out.
-if you do recommend disable win defender, firewall, update and get 3rd party software for firewall and anti virus (Kaspersky is good)
8 I actually have a think-pad x100e also and had no problem with duo boot (intel chipset too ~ not amd) ...wouldn't buy AMD chipset computer again though -too many issues
9. I like to tweak alot of things and have tied may configurations with Linux and had problems with alot of the distros except Ubuntu.
Happy Trails !

Apple ATI Radeon 5770 1 GB ZML MC742ZM/A Review

Apple ATI Radeon 5770 1 GB ZML MC742ZM/A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I too own a 2008 Mac Pro and replaced my aging Radeon 2600 with this puppy. First thing I noticed out of the box: it is HUGE compared to ATI and NVidia's older GPUs from a couple years ago. To the tune of 2x as wide and 2.5x as long. It also requires that you plug it into one of the 6 pin power adapters on your motherboard, which isn't hard but if you're not used to doing stuff like that it might be a little scary at first. Because of both of these factors I was worried it was going to be much noisier than my 2600 (drawing more power, larger fan) but ironically the opposite is true. This card is much quieter when booting up and makes no "extra" noise that I've heard (yet) during regular operations. I will be using this with the Adobe suite and some other GPU-intensive apps, will report back if I begin to hear any real noise issues.
The best part about the card is its dual Mini DisplayPorts, but unfortunately because Apple doesn't make a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, you have to use 3rd party solutions to connect with a more expensive LCD for color accurate work, and it seems some of those monitors (NEC and Eizo) are not compatible with some of those cables (StarTech, maybe others). A lot of folks have been experiencing problems with this, so just expect that if you have one of those monitors, you may be relegated to using your DVI connection until the monitor manufacturers and/or cable companies can discover the cause of the problem and solve it.
Haven't tested with any hard-core games but benchmarks I've seen indicate it's a nice boost over the Radeon 4870, the best upgrade kit available before this one.

The mCover Hard Shell Cover Case for the new Macbook Air (released late in 2010) is one of the first hard shell covers made specifically for the new Air, and despite the company's reputation I had some trepidation about buying it before it was reviewed by experienced Mac product experts. But I have to say that it's everything I want in a cover/protector for the new Air: it fits snugly and goes on with virtually no effort. It snaps on in a way that makes it almost impossible to scratch the computer. It has retractable legs that allow you to position the computer at different angles. I bought the clear model, and it's pretty much invisible. I've had it for 10 days or so now and I can only find good things to say about it. Whew!

I started signing up with Square Trade because of their reasonable prices. I was a bit nervous, since I've only used Best Buy's warranty service and never had tried a mail-in service before, but the difference in price was significant enough to take a chance with it.
I just filed a claim with Square Trade and received astoundingly good service. None of the nonsense that I'm used to from Geek Squad- e.g., waiting for hours at the Best Buy service counter for someone to pay attention to me, then being told the issue isn't covered, or it'll cost extra, it'll take 2-6 weeks to send the unit out for service, etc.
None of that crap when I dealt with Square Trade. To the contrary, I received INSTANT help, yes it's fully covered, INSTANT e-mail labels for the return, great response.
I'll never use Geek Squad again. I'm a Square Trade fan now. Seriously- these guys are the best.

NEW Power AC Adapter/Charger for Apple MacBook 13.3inch MB063LL/B MA472LL/A MacBook 13" Review

NEW Power AC Adapter/Charger for Apple MacBook 13.3inch MB063LL/B MA472LL/A MacBook 13
Average Reviews:

After charging my battery for a few hours (from 10% to 70% capacity) the charger was incredibly hot to the touch. It was so hot that a smell similar to wet paint filled the room and the white plastic surrounding the charger became warped and melted. I wish I had not been stubborn and had listened to the previous negative reviews. Even though it is a lot cheaper than the original Apple charger, which is also obviously a terrible product (susceptible to wire rot at the junctions) hence the need to buy a replacement, this product simply does not work. I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a genuine Apple charger since at least it works without running the risk of burning down your house. Very displeased with both Apple's genuine charger and this joke of a product. I would have given this product zero stars but it wouldn't let me give less than one.

Belkin Wireless N+ 802.11n Router (Black) Review

Belkin Wireless N+ 802.11n Router (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Belkin wireless N+ router is the third wireless router I have purchased over the last five years. I have a three story house and the router is located on the first floor. The earlier routers did not cover the entire house and I had to use a wireless repeater. More importantly, these earlier routers were always having to be reset, sometimes on a daily basis. This new Belkin router has taken care of both problems. It gives a substantially stronger signal and I do not need the repeater any longer. More importantly, is has been absolutely reliable. I have not had any problems since plugging it in a month ago. Set up was a breeze. I am one totally-happy camper!

Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black) Review

Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So who spends almost $200 on a keyboard that doesn't even have a number pad? Well, I do...
If you are in the market for a good utilitarian cordless keyboard to use, this might not be the best choice. But if you like unique, stylish computer gear, that still works well, then this makes a nice addition to your desktop. Even if you don't get a chance to show it off to your friends, you'll enjoy looking at it sitting in its charging stand, or on your desk. It must hold a pretty good charge, because I've only charged it once in the month that I've had it. So if you're thinking the charger is too cumbersome to take with you on a trip, you don't have to worry about it; you won't need it. And at about 1/2" thick, it won't take up much space in your bag.
You could hook it up using the built-in bluetooth in your computer, but unless you're starved for USB ports, the receiver is about the size of a small flash drive (unlike the previous DiNovo Desktop). It connects instantly too, so you won't spend ages trying to figure out why it's not connected.
The trackpad is a small circlular affair, positioned off to the right, so you won't be constantly hitting it like the pads on most laptops. Only southpaw mousers will suffer from this layout. And scrolling with the pad works surprisingly well.
A few drawbacks are the lack of a number pad. You don't even get the typical fn + keys to enter numbers, which could have been easily included, but wasn't. And the fn key is to the right of the spacebar, which is opposite from what most people are used to using. Other than that you get a full set of keys (except the number pad). Plus nicely placed zoom buttons, volume control, and media keys, and a nice oversized delete key.
Keystrokes are short, but give reasonable tactile feedback. I'm not a very good typist, but I don't think those who are will find much to complain about.
And depending on your computer you can lay it right on top of laptop keyboard. Or use it from across the room.
I was worried that I would be sacrificing usability for style and looks, but it turned out not ot be the case.
I give the diNovo top marks in all respects. This is one of Logitech's success stories, unlike some of their products.
I'm very pleased with this purchase.
update 03/01/07 Since I just got a MacBook I thought I would update my review with some new info. Logitech does not support this keyboard for use with Macs (when you open Logitech Control Center, similar to Setpoint but for Macs), it won't recognize the keyboard. But that doesn't mean it won't work. Mac's bluetooth recognizes and pairs the kb instantly, and almost all functions work. What doesn't work is the set of buttons on the left (which I don't use anyway). And the fn+function keys don't work either as far as I can tell (the function keys themselves do work, and F12 works as an eject button for the DVD drive). But the mousepad works the same, as does the volume control, and the 'windows' key functions as the 'apple' key.
In addition, if you flip up the legs, the DiNovo will fit perfectly over a 17" MackBook Pro. So if you have a Mac and this keyboard, you won't have to put it aside till Logitach decides to support it.
I would also assume that third parties will come out with drivers or whatever might be needed to fill the void.

6ft Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable Review

6ft Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently bought an Intel Mac Mini and was faced with both a golden opportunity to improve the quality of my sound output, and a dilemma. The Mini can output audio by both an RCA jack and offers optical output as well. The quandry? They're both built into a single outlet, which means that the optical interface isn't your standard TOSLink/SPDIF-sized port. But I couldn't sit by and not take advantage of feeding output directly to my home theater digital decoder. The TOSLink to Mini cable fit the bill perfectly. It's sturdy (sturdy enough anyway; you don't want to go yanking on any optical cable, but handled reasonably they're going to last), and outputs amazing, crystal clear sound quality. My iTunes library has never sounded better...same with DVD titles (now the MacOS needs to gain playback support for BluRay).
Best of all, despite the Mini-TOSLink interface type being impossible to find in your local brick-and-mortal type outlets, this was priced not only fairly but very compellingly on Amazon (at the time of my purchase anyway). I'd recommend this to anybody with a Mini, or any similar audio output!

Thinkpad SL410 14" HD Matte Review

Thinkpad SL410 14 HD Matte
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This model has largely been replaced by the Edge 14 series but this redesign means the SL-410 is a steal compared to the original price that was $300+ more.
Buyers must be attentive when buying these units, though. Lenovo issued a wide variety of options within this series but nearly all of them seem to be hovering around the $500 mark so it's possible to get a higher end version for the same amount as a base unit.
Base units = 250GB hard drive. High end = 500GB
Base units = 3GB DDR3 RAM. High end = 4GB
Base units = No finger scan High end = Fingerprint scanner
That being said, the basic design is the same for all. You get a dual core processor mated to a tough plastic casing and 14 inch screen.
The major difference between this and the Edge 14 is that the SL-410 has class. The Edge version is a slab-sided black plastic box and that's the best that can be said for that uninspiring design.
But class has its drawbacks. The card reader slot is positioned on the right forward edge near the crease and two USB ports are directly below, slightly recessed. Inserting a card is largely touchy-feely and USB thumb drives are a trick. Because the USB ports are recessed they are not only tricky to find but difficult to see without physically picked the unit up.
The SL does have a slightly textured finish while the Edge has gone to a smoother, shiny design. Fingerprints don't hang around on the SL but the Edge will leave evidence of your visit for months to come.
One area the Edge series excels in is that of noise. Essentially, there is none. No fan or hard drive noise that is easily detectable. The SL series has no hard drive noise, either, but fan noise is easily heard. Since the unit runs cool the fan rarely activates but when it does you'll know it.
The trackpads are different and this is quite obvious. The SL uses a roughly textured trackpad that means fingers must be dry or they will drag. The Edge has a Teflon coated pad that allows easy gliding.
Function wise, though, the SL has a better trackpad design. The Edge often jumped for no apparent reason while the SL stays on target.
Keyboard on both is identical, which is to say excellent. Nobody beats Lenovo in this category.
And both perform identically in the processing department, probably because they share nearly identical dual core processors, but the SL comes with Windows 7 Professional instead of Home Premium like the Edge. Both share the same mediocre but acceptable 3 hour battery life. Humpback batteries are available to jack it up to 6 or so hours.
Is the SL a good deal at this price? You bet. It's over $100 less than the current version in the Edge series and it does have the classier design. The inclusion of Professional ups the ante a little bit, too.
But is it worth the chase to find the upgrade units with bigger hard drives and the fingerprint reader? All depends upon your needs. I can't fill up a 250GB hard drive let alone a 500GB version and fingerprint readers are notoriously fickle beasts that often fail or require multiple attempts to recognize a print.
In addition, Amazon has a good customer service policy versus some of the other websites selling these.
